Biography
Gowoon is a Ph.D. student in the Stanford University Department of Applied Physics, and she joined Prof. Evan Reed's group in Spring 2016. She received her B.S. in Physics from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology. In 2013, she spent a year at Karlsruher Institut für Technologie in Germany, where she worked on superconducting metamaterials with Prof. Alexey Ustinov. Her research focused on employing SQUIDs of different geometries for applications in frequency-tunable metamaterials. In 2014, she also studied plasmonics with Prof. Min-Kyo Seo at KAIST.

Currently, her research focuses on accelerating materials discovery and simulations using machine learning. They include materials discovery with data mining and machine learning, learning the phase change dynamics of diamond, high-throughput density functional theory calculations, and crystal structure search.
In her free time, she enjoys drawing on her iPad like the dedicated theorist she is
